10 reasons why I would not want to live in Panem

1. The ban on travel.
I could not imagine to stay in my 'district' for the whole life, not being able to see other things      of the world or meet new people or cultures. The people in this nation are forced not to leave Panem itself or move respectively travel in the space of the isolated districts.

2. The violation of human rights
In Panem, a lot, elsewise nearly all the human rights are disdained. People living there have no right to speech, they have no freedom of the press or their opinion. Besides that the right to a level of living is for example in district 12 completely ignored. And that the right to live doesn't really exist can you see if you look at the Hunger Games or how the peacekeepers treat the inhabitants. No human life besides their own or from the humans in the capitol is important to them.

3. The hunger games
If I would live in Panem with this age I could possibly be forced to go in the arena. I could not imagine to kill other people while the audience is watching me and jubilating for me. It's a cruelty to send children to a place where they have to do so awful things.

4. The government system
The system of Panem with President Snow on the head and besides him all the others like in a hierarchy to my mind is really bad. One person can decide what a million of others have to do. He is an all-powerful leader of everything happening in Panem.

5. The geographical position
To my mind the former North America is not really nice. There are a lot of environmental issues which I would be afraid of like tornados or floods. The winters are very cold and the area is not copious to cultivate corn or some other aliments.

6. The surrounding
The surrounding in Panem is in some places very ugly. Like in district 12, where is a big fence around it and all the depraved houses and other buildings in the seam. Everything seams grey and sad and this acutally reflects the real Panem.

7. The capitol
I would never want to live in a country, where is  such a horrible capitol existing.  The technical chances there are incredible but also morbid. To my mind remake your whole body by plastic-surgery isn't that good. In addition to that the people living there are all very vain, selfish and especially cursory. For them hunger is no issue, their most important thing is to look good and to be supported.

8. The future prospects
The future for Panem doesn't look bright. Actually the hunger games will be continued and for  the other social problems there's no solution in sight. The capitol people will still enjoy their wealth while the human-beings in the districts have to fear for their lives.

9. The helplessness
The people in the districts can not help themselves. They are not free and can not publish their minds because otherwise they would be killed very soon. They have to be hungry but can not do something against it. Try to abolish the Hunger games would be very unnecessarily in their case because they just exist by reason that people from District 11 told the government their minds and revolted.

10. The manipulation
The humans living in Panem are all juggled by the dominant system and especially by the media. The families are only allowed to watch TV when there comes something good about Panem and the capitol or a bad report about the rebellion in District 13. Besides that children just learn good things about the country and the political system.

Summing up there would be really more reasons for not living in Panem. These are just the most important reasons for me. Do you know any others?

  1. Hey LK,
I realy like your 10 reasons against living in Panem. The arguments, I choose are a bit different than yours but I am realy convinced of the crative aspects you mentioned.
Especially point 5, which is about the geographical position is one of my favorite reasons in your comment. I like it very much because it is your personal thought and one of the reasons why YOU do not want to live in Panem. well done! IV :)
