Why human rights are therefore important
It's obvious that Panem is a country with a big inequality between rich and poor. The government have total control and supervision over the people in the districts.
Of course the lower class has the worst living standards and additionally is deprived of many human rights.
In the past, district 13 did a rebellion so the cruel regime punished them with destroying. Now the capitol oppresses the other poor districts to scare them and to show their authority and power.
"The Hunger Games" itself provides a good example for exerting power over the people. They should be a reminder for districts which think about a rebellion against the Capitol and the all-powerfull President Snow.
Firstly, I think it's important to say that the games are more or less involuntary, because the tributes get alloted and only if someone volunteers the chosen one mustn't fight for his life. It's frightening how young some tributes are, for example Rue from district 11. She's weak and can't defend herself, she is only able to hide herself in the woods or simply run away. The most children haven't any chance to stay alive. In addition, it's not fair that the rich get trained professionally before the games.
The human rights, here especially of children, are important to protect the health and the whole life of people, so that nobody is allowed to hurt you or kill you yet.
The entire game is a big violation of the humans' dignity. The tributes suffer, have fear and die in front of millions of people who watch the games.
To sum up, unfortunately Panem violates are even more human rights in addition to
- the infringement upon the right to equality,
- the right to freedom,
- the right to safety
- and the right to dignity.
- the freedom of speech
- no cruel and inhuman treatment or punishment
- and so on..
Greetings, SD
Hi SD! I haven't read this book for many of the reasons you stated. I don't like the way human life is regarded as expendable and I especially don't like the way the children are treated. As an overly sensitive mother, reading about the mistreatment of children is not something I enjoy; I generally end up crying and depressed. I agree with you that human life is something to be treasured. All humans are born with the same right to freedom. I do not understand how watching another human die is regarded as entertainment in this story.
ReplyDeleteWere there any parts of the book you enjoyed reading? I haven't attempted to try because the negative parts of the book would be too overwhelming for me. I'm much too sensitive, especially when children are involved.
Thank you for sharing! Hope you have a wonderful day!
I really like your text because your description of the situation for the people of Panem is very good. It is good that you chose the example of Rue because that gives an impression how unfair the life for children is.
ReplyDeleteThe construction of your text is very clear. I can follow your train of thought easily.
All in all it is a well-written blog entry. :)
