The world beyond the borders of Panem

The following text shows my ideas what Katniss could think about the worl outside of Panem. I'm writing it as Katniss:

When I was a little child my father told me a bit about the history of the world. Not that he really knew what had been going on but he knew a little from my grandfather and he from his own grandfather and so on.
I don't know what's true. My father loved to tell storys and I was attached to his lips. I wish that I had been a bit older so that I now could imagine the whole world, not only the broken bits I can remember.
Sometimes if Prim is really sad she asks for storys and I tell her the parts I can remember from our father's storys and then I add some things. Prim loves it. I think in this case she's like me. Or like I was as child.

However, thanks to my father for telling me these storys so that I now have at least a little idea of the world beyond the borders of Panem.
The last time the American nation had contact to other countries their situation wasn't better than ours. There were brutal wars for the left petroleum oil and aliment. Just before the US had lost the war and thereby would have lost all they had they closed the borders of  North America. Everyone who came near to the borders had been killed and so after a while nobody tried it anymore. Therefore since several hundreds of years no single human being arrived in North America. And this was the begining of Panem. But this story you know.
Since all the other countries have been wageing war, too, I don't think their situatin is much better than ours. But in one thing I'm really certain: there are NO HUNGER GAMES in other countries!!! I...I don't know it...but I feel it. This cruelity is only a terrible tradition in Panem.
In my opinion the rest of the world lives in a bit of more peace. I think their childs have a better life because they don't have to fear an early dead in the Hunger Games. Maybe their governments give them a bit of help. Maybe they can trust each other- the government and the folk- and the people don't have to live with constant fears.
Nevertheless I don't believe that they have, even with a better government, also a better life. My father told me that there weren't many aliment left. Therefore I think that their governments are nicer and so their feelings about the whole situation their in are better but even a nice government can't do anything against missing food. And they fighted for them since the end. I HOPE that their wealth are better distributed so there are no children dying of starvation. But in this war there were so many deads. Nobody could take aways these memories. And to be honest, it had not been the fault of the folks...
Maybe we are a step more forward. Maybe the rest of the world hasn't passed the worst until now.
I hope for them that it's the other way round and we are a step behind them...

  1. Hey ALB ;)
    I really like your entry.
I'm happy to see that someone chose the possibility to write as Katniss.
When I read this, I actually thought that I'm reading the fourth part of the Hunger Games, so I decided: If Susan Collins doesn't write a next part, I will force you to take this job!;D
I also like your idea that Katniss' father told her these storys because otherwise I would have aksed mysef why she could know things like that.
Overall your entry is great but I didn't expect something else.
